Phil CharteWood craftsman PHIL CHARTE was born in Bangor, Maine and has spent most of his life in the beautiful Northeast. Currently, he lives in Cambridge, New York, a small village on the Vermont border. These woodlands and hills are where the artist finds his raw materials, as well as the inspiration for his functional artworks. An avid outdoorsman, Phil has spent much time hiking through the woods of New England and upstate New York. Contemplating trees, their branches and roots has led him to conclude that “wood, like all things in nature, has innate flaws....I find these flaws to be beautiful and I seek to bring them out in my artwork. My style is constantly evolving — an organic melding of form and function. My pieces can stand alone as sculpture, or be used in a more practical manner. I use many parts of trees — branches, roots, and trunks, along with vines and other recycled materials. One of a kind, all of my works are appropriate for enjoyment and use in the home, workplace, or a meditative environment.”

Tom ChesnutPhotographer TOM CHESNUT’S lifelong passion for art and the wilderness developed in his early childhood. As he grew, both as an artist and as a man, those passions created his love for landscape photography. He quickly realized photography was the perfect artistic medium for his creative and technical mind. From that moment on, his camera has been in his pack when on his countless solo hiking and backpacking excursions. Tom ventures deep into the wilderness so he can truly be alone in the meditative stillness of his unspoiled surroundings. It is there that he experiences the deep spiritual connection with nature his artistic soul requires. Tom says “A meditative stillness settles over me when in the wilderness away from human distractions. Going into wild areas by myself, I experience a deep spiritual connection with nature that has not been spoiled by human presence. Simple visual designs and compositions with strong abstraction catch my eye. I’m not so much inspired by other photographers in my image creation as by painters such as the late works of Turner, Whistler’s nocturnes, and the tonalism of George Inness.”
